Pivoting to my duties as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention, I’m adding a few last observations from the Republican National Convention and some already new news from my Democrats.

First, we have a vice presidential candidate in Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia.

A former governor, a strong campaigner, a former missionary and an ardent Catholic – I think Kaine is a great addition to the Clinton ticket.

The contrast with the right wing extremist Mike Pence couldn’t be more clear. Some of the Sanders backers and delegates do not feel the same…

With a few Bernie Sanders delegates with whom I have spoken, there is some disappointment that Hillary didn’t choose from the left flank of the party.

Complicating matters was the Wikileaks email dump with embarrassing emails from some DNC members disparaging the Sanders campaign during the primary.

In a surprise to some, Senator Sanders has called an unprecedented general meeting of all his delegates an hour before the gavel on Monday.

What is the agenda? Not sure.

But, I plan to be there to find out!

Here’s hoping that the plan is for Sanders to get the troops in line.

As my friend, and Sanders organizer and delegate Eric Lee has written, “defeating Trump is the most important thing in American politics, and possibly global politics.”

And, the Democratic Party is the only thing that stands in the way of that.On an organizational note – the Hillary campaign is moving full speed ahead with the nuts and bolts of the convention. Having been selected as the WHIP for the Democrats Abroad Hillary delegates, I have been actively informing our delegates where and when to be.

Philly is already geared up.

Security perimeters have been established with traffic control in force on the interstates entering the city.

The “blimp” was in my sites as I was driving past the city today.

Our Dems Abroad delegation is meeting Sunday evening in Malvern, Pennsylvania – our designated delegation area – about 20 miles west of the city.

Optimistically, we are expecting a far more positive and forward looking convention and platform than the dark, stark and extreme Trump concave we saw this past week.

Personally, I’m pretty excited and proud that as chair of the little Dems Abroad Ukraine chapter I was able to get elected to the DNC delegation. All thanks to a little electoral help from my friends…
