‘Bitter Harvest’ drama to release in Ukraine

Feb. 23 a Canada-made film ‘Bitter Harvest’, the first English-language fiction motion about Holodomor in Ukraine, is releasing in Ukraine.

The film is produced by Ian Ihnatowyc, an investor from Toronto whose parents emigrated from Ukraine during World War II.
The film budget is $20 million.

‘Bitter Harvest’ has been already shown at ‘American Film Market’ festival in Santa Monica, Berlin and Cannes Film Festivals as well.

Ukrainian sportsmen win gold at the Sambo World Championships

Anastasia Sapsai won the Sambo World Championships held in Minsk on Feb. 9-12.

One more Ukrainian sportsman, Dmytro Batok, won the champion title in the category up to 90 kg.

Overall, the Ukrainian national team has won five medals: two gold, one silver and two bronze.

Made in Ukraine: blue and red potatoes bred

Ukrainian Institute of Potato bred potatoes of blue and red colors.

The potato of red, blue or purple colors is 6-7 times more antioxidant rich than white or yellow one.

Although the cost of such potato is several times higher than usual the researchers say that it is much better and useful because it contains 4 times more of such antioxidants as zeaxanthin and lutein, and pigment anthocyanin is a strong antioxidant and heals circulatory system as well.

The potato does not lose its color while cooking. It can be fried, boiled, mashed etc.

Kyiv enters TOP-30 most affordable cities for students

Kyiv entered TOP-100 QS Best Student Cities ranking. The capital of Ukraine ranks 97th. In particular, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and The National Technical University of Ukraine ‘Ihor Sikorskyi Kyiv Polytechnic Institute’ were mentioned.

Overall, the experts have analyzed 125 cities on the following criteria: population, affordability, local universities ranking, employer activity, desirability and student experience.

Much lower living costs than in many other European cities (ranks 10th on ‘affordability’ indicator) and available English-taught courses are also mentioned. At the same time, it is recommended to learn and practice Ukrainian in order to navigate daily life in the city.

Ukrainian fun night in Vancouver

Feb. 25 Ukrainians in Vancouver will gather for the fun night. The party will take place at the Society of Ivan Franko (5311 Francis Road, Richmond).

The program includes potluck dinner, live Ukrainian music and singing, entertainment for children and adults, etc.
