Ukrainian human right activist’s achievements were compared with Lech Wałęsa’s activity
The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation gave a human rights activist and vice chancellor of Ukrainian Catholic University Myroslav Marynovych the Truman-Reagan Freedom Award.
The Truman-Reagan Freedom Award is given each year since 1999 to those individuals and institutions that have demonstrated a life-long commitment to freedom and democracy, and opposition to communism and all other forms of tyranny as well.
Among the award recipients were Lech Wałęsa, Pope Saint John Paul II, Václav Havel and others.
Ukrainian high speed trains to first run
Two high speed trains produced by JSC Kryukov Car Building plant (Poltava region) start running in Ukraine. The trains have been already undergone test-drive, certification and are ready to introduce into operation. The first train run will be from Kyiv to Lviv.
High speed trains of JSC Kryukov Car Building plant cost one and a half time less than Hyundai train. In April 2013 the company evaluated the cost of express train (dual system nine-car electric train for trans-regional transportation) at about UAH 167, 000, 000.00 exclusive of VAT (USD 20, 850, 000.00). The price of Hyundai electric train gets up to USD 29, 165, 000.00 exclusive of VAT.
Ukrainian express train can reach up to 160 km/h. Maximum train speed is up to 200 km/h. Electric train offers first class, second class and economy class of 609 passengers total capacity.
Young people of Odesa are working on a unique mobile application
Young IT specialists from Odesa are working on Looksery application. The application is on beta testing stage already.
'We are the first to perform online face virtual modification and tracking on a mobile platform', Yulia Krasnienko, Development Director, comments.
Looksery allows a man to lose his weight, adjust skin color, and delet skin defects, change eye color and shape. The only one you need to do is download an image into the application and scan it through the offered modes.
Upon raising required financial assets the developers plan to release first iOS version in August 2014.
First Kharkiv student defended thesis by Skype
For the first time professors of Computer Science College under Kharkiv National Technical University evaluated thesis defence by skype.
In April 2014 one of the student, Georgiy Krestovnikov, passed all exams, submitted his thesis and left for Sevastopol. However, because of the recent events in Ukraine he was not able to return to Kharkiv.
Considering thesis submission and good grades Georgiy was allowed to defend his thesis online. The head of the commission, five members of attestation committee and student’s mother were present at thesis defence. The defence lasted about half an hour. Georgiy read a report, answered all professors questions and as a result received a highest grade and technical qualification.
Chicago to celebrate Days of Kyiv in 2015
Next year under the sisters-cities aegis program Chicago plans to hold Days of Kyiv. By the way Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel is of Ukrainian origin.
The plan was announced by the General Consul of Ukraine in Chicago Andriy Pravednik,
'We are planning to organize Days of Kyiv in Chicago in the second half of the next year. We hope to bring a number of Kyiv dancers, singers and businessmen. Exhibit items of Ukrainian museums will be shown at the festival to introduce Ukrainian heritage to Chicago audience'.
