Oleksandr Smikhovskiy,

head of Khmelnytsky Markets Association

“It was unbelievable that for the first time Mykola Kulbida (the head of the State Weather Service) had the right forecast and predicted that heavy snowfall. Now only the well-coordinated work of the municipal services can help. I wish municipal services would start cleaning Kyiv’s outskirts, but not Bankova Street. And I think that the metro should work for 24 hours on these days. The problem is that the snowplows are too old.”

Maria Lukianovych,

psychologist

“The climate is changing and so we’re suffering from it.  Kyiv authorities should do something. I’m living in England and there we don’t have such a severe climate, but our municipal services cleaned the roads every day. They use salt and some chemicals to get rid of the snow.”

Ihor Petrenko,

student

“They need to work for 24 hours and use more snowplows. But I even enjoyed such extreme weather. But I think everybody should take a shovel and do something.”

Lyudmyla Liskovych,

costumier

“It’s simply the weather is to blame. People cannot predict everything. I think that the authorities need to be given the worst cars and I’ll see how they can drive in the city – it can be a good punishment for those who did nothing to clean Kyiv’s streets.”

Olena Klyi,

unemployed

“The weather is unexpected for March, so I don’t understand why (municipal services) did so little. But I was sitting at home during the last weekend. I think municipal services must show their best now, because they all knew about (beforehand).”
