Ukrainian Alternative Energy Forum ’16 will be held on November 3, 2016 in Kyiv

Ukrainian Alternative Energy Forum ’16 will be held on November 3, 2016 in Kyiv. This is the first international forum focused on investment opportunities in Ukrainian alternative energy market. Forum organizers – A7 CONFERENCES and Dentons, Institutional Partner – EBRD, PartnersGESS Consulting Ukraine, RENTECHNO, Jinko Solar, CNBM, Renault Ukraine and KNESS.

Alternative energy is one of the most promising areas, which is constantly drawing the attention of more market players. At the same time, energy efficiency and energy independence issues have become very topical in Ukraine in recent years. The increased cost of imported energy, the instability of the national currency and the direction for energy efficiency are currently the main factors that require important decision making.

This is the third international conference of the organizers in this year, dedicated to the Ukrainian energy sector, which promises to be the largest communication platform with a focus on investment opportunities, development and reforms of the sector of alternative energy, including solar energy, wind power and bioenergy.

The platform will bring together more than 400 representatives of the sector including investors, government officials and financial institutions from more than 20 countries. A special feature of the Forum will be a discussion on global trends in alternative energy, prospects of development of this sector in Ukraine until 2020 and the potential of solar, wind and bioenergy.

Francis Malige, Managing Director, Eastern Europe and the Caucasus, EBRD, said: “In Ukraine wind-, solar-, biomass- and hydro power plants collectively produce less than 12 per cent of the total electricity output. Firstly, it is a very small number for such a big country. Secondly, there is a significant potential for investments and new projects. With a favourable investment climate and the relevant legislative framework, renewable electricity can be one of the most promising sectors of the Ukrainian economy.”

Myron Rabij, Partner, Ukrainian Head of Energy and Natural Resources practice, Dentons, commented: “Dentons is proud to be a co-organizer of this important industry event. Alternative energy has long been a conference topic at Ukrainian energy conferences and this event demonstrates its enormous potential and the extent of market interest in its various industries. Alternative energy growth is not only a Ukrainian imperative. It is both a European and global priority. Ukraine is part of that global dialogue that focuses on energy diversity, clean energy and new technologies. I hope, that the Forum will be an effective platform for honest and productive dialogue and exchanges of experience with a view to develop new business opportunities and investor confidence in new projects in Ukraine.”

Olga Brizhan, Director, GESS Consulting Ukraine, confirmed: “The use of alternative energy sources is one of the most pressing issues of our time. The interest in it is growing every day, along with an increase in tariffs and environmental issues, energy efficiency and energy independence. The introduction of alternative sources of energy can overcome a number of negative aspects, including the depreciation of fixed assets in the generation industries, the high level of monopolization of the industry, a low level of energy efficiency of the economy, the deficit of coal in thermal power plants, etc. Ukraine has a great potential of alternative energy sources, and with the correct systemic reform of the energy sector, the construction of a new economic and social life of the country, this potential will work in favor of the state.”
