Cinema-Center LLC, managing cinemas of the Cinema City chain belonged to businessman and former co-owner of 1+1 TV channel Boris Fuksmann, won a tender to lease the cinema Kyiv on April 15 offering Hr 2.1 million a month.

The competition was also attended by NGO Fund Molodist, Planeta Kino LLC, Santini Fusion LLC and PJSC Multiplex-Holding.

According to the terms of the contract, the rental term is 10 years. It is forbidden to change the purpose of the building. In addition, the cinema should keep showing the festival and art house movies.

“Cinema Kyiv is the pearl of the capital of Ukraine and a cinema significant for all citizens. Therefore, it is important for us to preserve its uniqueness, its audience, and therefore its festival profile. The city authorities, together with the public, as well as using the recommendations of the culture department drew up the conditions so that the cinema will continue showing its festival and art house movies. We expect that the new tenant, I appeal to the participants of the competition, will meet the established conditions of the competition, which the city will thoroughly monitor,” Deputy Head of the Kyiv City Administration Volodymyr Slonchak said during the meeting of the competition commission.

According to him, the area of the cinema is more than 7,300 square meters. At the same time, the previous tenant paid Hr 47,000 a month. “Thus, revenues of the city from the rental of the premises will increase 45 times,” he added.
