The Cabinet of Ministers has lifted a ban on export of ethyl alcohol (as a raw material for medical purposes and the pharmaceutical industry) from Ukraine from May 15, instead of the previously set deadline on June 1.

The government adopted the corresponding changes to the resolution at a meeting on May 13.

According to an explanatory note to the draft cabinet resolution, available to Interfax-Ukraine, the production capacities of Ukrainian distilleries amount to about 600 million liters of ethyl alcohol per year, in particular the production capacities of Ukrspyrt state enterprise are about 300 million liters per year.

Moreover, according to the document, the demand for ethyl alcohol in the domestic market in recent years does not exceed 70-80 million liters per year, the workload of state distilleries, which are subordinate to the Ministry of Economy, is not more than 13%.

The explanatory note says, with reference to data from the State Statistics Service, that export of ethyl alcohol in 2018-2019 amounted to 8.1 million liters and 9.3 million liters, respectively, in particular Ukrspyrt (according to the company) exported 4.9 million liters and 5.9 million liters, respectively.

According to the State Statistics Service, for the two months of 2020, export of ethyl alcohol will amount to 1.1 million liters, which is actually fully exported by Ukrspyrt.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers at the end of March 2020 introduced a ban on the export of ethyl alcohol from Ukraine for a period until June 1 of this year.
