You're reading: Corporate loan portfolio of Ukrainian banks 2.6 percent down in May

The volume of loans issued to the corporate sector by Ukrainian banks, according to the results of May 2019, decreased by 2.6 percent, to UAH 822.91 billion, in particular in the hryvnia by 4.1 percent, to Hr 449.15 billion, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has posted the relevant data on its website.

According to the report, the loan portfolio in foreign currency in U.S. dollar terms declined by 1.7 percent, to $14.15 billion.

In general, since the beginning of the year, the reduction of the corporate loan portfolio amounted to 5.9 percent, in particular in hryvnias by 5.6 percent, whereas over the same period last year it grew by 1.3 percent, in particular in hryvnias by 2.3 percent.

According to the published data, compared to the end of May last year, the volume of loans to the corporate sector decreased by 3.8 percent, in particular in the hryvnia by 5.8 percent, in foreign currency by 1.4 percent (in U.S. dollar equivalent by 4.1 percent). During this time, interest rates on loans in the national currency rose from 17 percent to 18.1 percent per annum, in foreign currency fell from 6.5 percent to 5.3 percent per annum.
