You're reading: EBRD confirms interest in financing Ukrzaliznytsia infrastructure projects

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has confirmed its readiness to finance Ukraine’s infrastructure projects, in particular, the projects of PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia, and to increase the volume of these investments, Ukrzaliznytsia has said, with in reference to the newly appointed First Vice President of the EBRD, Jurgen Rigterink.

According to Acting Chairman of Ukrzaliznytsia Yevhen Kravtsov, a number of important projects have been implemented in cooperation with the EBRD such as the construction of the Beskydsky tunnel, the acquisition of rolling stock, and introduction of high-speed rail links in Ukraine.

“One more joint project of Ukrzaliznytsia and the EBRD will be implemented in 2018-2019: the purchase of 7,000 freight wagons. The next step of our cooperation will be the start of electrification of the Dolynska-Mykolaiv-Kolosivka railway section. Together with the bank, we are reforming the corporate governance system at the company,” Kravtsov said.

Rigterink stressed the importance of Ukrzaliznytsia for the EBRD as a large and reliable client.

As part of the meeting, the head of Ukrzaliznytsia said that the electrification of the Dolynska-Mykolaiv-Kolosivka railway section should begin this year, while all works worth 350 million euro are to be completed in 2021.
