You're reading: Economy ministry proposes increasing bottom alcohol prices

The Economic Development and Trade Ministry of Ukraine has proposed to increase bottom wholesale and retail prices of vodka and liquors by 12.4-19.6 percent, whiskey, rum and gin – by 12 percent, cognac – by 6.6-9.5 percent and wine – by 4.5-13.5 percent.

“Prices of components of the alcohol price grew, in particular, prices of spirit, bottles and spare parts. Today, the size of bottom prices is not in line with real expenses of economic entities on production and sale of alcohol and requires revision,” the ministry said in an explanatory note to the draft resolution posted on its website.

A meeting headed by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Economic Development and Trade Stepan Kubiv to discuss the increase in alcohol prices was held on June 7.

The ministry said that the bottom prices of alcohol were increased in September 2017. The price of a half-liter bottle of vodka was increased from Hr 69.78 to Hr 79.55.

According to the draft of the new resolution, now it is proposed to raise the price of the bottle of vodka to Hr 89.41, or 12.4 percent (from Hr 397.76 to Hr 447.03 per liter of 100 percent ABV). The minimum wholesale prices for vodka and alcoholic beverages are to be increased by 19.6 percent, to Hr 321.34 per liter of 100 percent ABV.

The minimum price for natural wines is suggested to be increased by 13.5 percent, to Hr 42 per 0.7 liter bottle in retail, for fortified wines and vermouth – by 8.9 percent, to Hr 49, for champagne per bottle 0,7 l – on 12.4 percent, to Hr 89.

In addition, there is an increase in the minimum wholesale-selling price of three stars cognac from the current Hr 386.98 for liter of 100 percent ABV to Hr 412.45, retail – from Hr 597.30 to Hr 641.60 four stars cognac from Hr 412.85 to Hr 455.23 and from Hr 645.17 to Hr 696.60 respectively.

For five stars cognac the minimum wholesale price is reduced from Hr 495.95 to Hr 481.58, while retail is increased from Hr 692.60 to Hr 758.26.

It is expected that the resolution will enter into force 10 days after its publication.
