You're reading: Egypt imposes temporary antidumping duties on imports of rebar from China, Turkey, Ukraine

Ministry of Trade and Industry of Egypt has introduced temporary duties as part of the antidumping investigation into imports of steel rebar for construction purposes originated from China, Turkey and Ukraine.

Egyptian news agency Ahram online reported, referring to Trade Minister Tarek Kabil, that the antidumping duty on China’s steel is set at 17 percent, Turkey’s – 10-19 percent and Ukraine’s – 15-27 percent.

“The decision comes following a thorough study… and is intended to protect local manufacturing from harmful practices by imported alternatives,” the minister said.

According to media reports, the duties are imposed for the period of four months.

A source in diplomat circles told Interfax-Ukraine that at present the decision has not been yet officially published. Ukraine has not received the official notification on the introduction of the duties.
