You're reading: Ex-finance minister Danyliuk sees nationalization of PrivatBank correct, justified

A member of the candidate to the post of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy, former finance minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Danyliuk has said that the decision to nationalize PrivatBank (Kyiv) was correct and justified.

“Regarding the nationalization of PrivatBank. It was a very difficult process. According to the information on which the government made the decision on privatization, and also the decision of the NSDC [the National Security and Defense Council], I believe that the decision was absolutely correct,” he told ICTV channel on April 15 evening.

Regarding the need to compensate to the former owner of PrivatBank, Ihor Kolomoisky, in connection with the nationalization of the bank, Danyliuk said that it is the court that will decide, but if “we proceed from the position I have already stated that the decision was correct and justified, then what kind of compensation can there be?”

At the same time, Danyliuk voiced positions of Poroshenko and Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko, who prevented him as the minister of finance and PrivatBank’s top managers to defend the interests of Ukraine in the London court.

“This was manifested in the fact that this led to the fact that the next day I demanded the resignation of Lutsenko since you insistently asked me to share all the information regarding the London court with a person who had previously met with Ihor Kolomoisky in Amsterdam [Lutsenko]. And I thought that this was not the position of the president who defends the interests of the country,” Danyliuk said.
