You're reading: Gazprom discloses data about UK assets, these include Nord Stream stake pledged as collateral

Gazprom has, following a court order in response to a lawsuit brought by Naftogaz Ukrainy, disclosed information about its assets in the United Kingdom, which include a stake in Nord Stream AG that was pledged as collateral for financing.

Gazprom Deputy CEO Alexander Medvedev told reporters that the Russian gas giant was complying with the laws of all states in which it does business. “Gazprom also fulfills all lawful court orders,” he said.

“Today we have received the Russian Energy Ministry’s consent to disclose information about the company’s assets in England and Wales under an order by an English court and we have disclosed this information in the manner prescribed by the court. And of course, Gazprom will continue to contest all actions by Naftogaz to enforce the Stockholm arbitration ruling. The Swedish tribunal has clearly ruled that enforcement must be suspended until a verdict has been reached on our appeal. Gazprom also continues to challenge rulings by Stockholm arbitration in disputes with Naftogaz because it considers that these rulings were issued with serious infractions,” he said.

The UK assets include a stake in Nord Stream AG, pledged as collateral. “This does not mean a new charge has been placed on the shares in Nord Stream AG or that they can be in some way transferred to Naftogaz. Gazprom learned back on June 22 that an English court had on June 18 banned all deals with Gazprom’s assets on the territory of England and Wales,” Gazprom said in a statement.

“Given that a demand has been made to cancel the ruling on the transit contact by Stockholm arbitration on February 28 and the ruling by the Swedish court to halt its enforcement, Gazprom will continue to protect its own rights by all lawful means,” it said.
