MOSCOW – Gazprom has added a reduction of gas transit tariffs to the package of conditions it wants Kyiv to consider with regard to further cooperation on gas shipments (earlier, it included direct shipments of gas and Ukraine’s dropping all arbitration claims).

Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and Georg Graf Waldersee, Commissioner of the Federal Government of Germany for Gas Transit across Ukraine, met on Dec. 6.

“Alexei Miller emphasized that Gazprom is expecting the Ukrainian side to show a constructive stance on the set of issues concerning interaction in the gas sphere, including economically substantiated conditions for transit of Russian gas across Ukrainian territory from 2020 onwards,” Gazprom said in a release.

Miller disclosed to Waldersee details of the Ukrainian negotiations on gas cooperation starting in 2020, it said.

“It was highlighted that Ukraine continues implementing the provisions of the EU’s Third Energy Package in national legislation. This work hasn’t yet been completed, and it envisages setting up a certified gas transmission system operator,” Gazprom said.
