You're reading: Kyiv Post launches first independent law firm ranking in Ukraine

The Kyiv Post is pleased to announce the launch of its new independent ranking of law firms in Ukraine. Our team has carried out extensive research to develop an objective, fair methodology to establish a reliable ranking – one that we hope the public and law firms will trust.

Part of our research included comparing our ranking to other major rankings in Ukraine and abroad, and finding out what readers feel is important with regard to the value of a law firm.

We also seek to measure the transparency and approachability of law firms based on the questions in this survey. Unlike some other legal rankings, law firms cannot “purchase” a position in our ranking.

If you represent a law firm, we invite your firm to participate by completing the following questionnaire as completely as possible. We will assign a legal index ranking based on an internal evaluation of the answers, using our objective methodology.

As this is our first time of doing such a legal ranking, there will be no participation fee. In addition, we would like to emphasize that no one can “purchase” a position, as this is a completely independent ranking.

We have received a lot of very helpful and generous feedback from a number of those who have already submitted their questions. The Kyiv Post will continuously refine its ranking and add new ones measuring different categories of a law practice in the future.

We are primarily looking at the general quality of a law firm, be it a large or a boutique one.

We are looking at law firms from a Kyiv Post perspective – how transparent and beneficial to society law firms are, and the quality of the services they provide that we think our readers (investors, businesses) will find beneficial in their decision-making when deciding which law firm to go with. As we develop this product, we will also expand our team in the future.

We are also planning to expand our ranking in the future into subcategories – this ranking is only the beginning of a much bigger project. Currently, we have a more general ranking that assesses firms according to five main categories: transparency, approachability, internationality, social balance and the general strength of the law firm. As the idea of the ranking is to keep it as objective as possible, it will be largely based on a mathematical formula to keep the results as objective as possible.

The deadline for submitting answers is Tuesday, March 5 at 6 p.m. The results will be announced in our next Legal Quarterly, which goes to print on March 29. It will also be announced on the Kyiv Post website – it will be accessible for free for a few weeks, but then it will go behind the paywall.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to our Business Editor Ilya Timtchenko at [email protected] and our legal affairs reporter Vyacheslav Hnatyuk at [email protected] if you will have any questions, and we welcome your feedback for improvements.
