You're reading: National Bank of Ukraine buys $136 million on interbank FX market this week

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) in the period from July 26 to July 30, bought $136 million on the interbank foreign exchange market, keeping the hryvnia from stronger strengthening, while a week earlier the central bank bought only $32 million.

According to the NBU, $80 million was purchased at the best rate, and $56 million at a single rate.

In general, from the beginning of 2021, it bought $1.161 billion into reserves, and sold $169.5 million.

In January the central bank spent $20 million to support the hryvnia, in February it was $200 million, in March it was $50.5 million, after which, in April, it sold $50 million. In May, the NBU did not enter the market with interventions, and in June it bought $583.3 million, and in July it bought $188 million.
