You're reading: NBU says payments on gross foreign debt in 2019 will amount to $15.7 billion

Ukraine’s payments on gross external debt in 2019 will be $15.7 billion, according to data on the website of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

According to the central bank, in January-March of this year payments on gross external debt will amount to $5.609 billion, including $4.28 billion in principal, after which in the second and third quarters the amount of payments will decrease to $3.608 billion and $3.919 billion respectively.

The amount of payments in the fourth quarter of 2019 will be $2.519 billion, including $1.853 billion in principal, the NBU said.

The largest payments in the current quarter should be payments on the debt of other sectors in the amount of $2.922 billion, and in total for the year some $6.401 billion.

Payments on the public administration debt in 2019 will reach $5.017 billion, including $3.306 billion in the principal amount, and on the debt of the NBU some $843 million, including $595 million of principal.

As reported, in the fourth quarter of 2018, Ukraine’s gross external debt rose by $515 million, or 0.45 percent, to $114.71 billion. At the same time, over the past year Ukraine’s gross external debt decreased by $740 million, or 0.64 percent, whereas a year earlier it grew by $2.93 billion, or 2.6 percent.
