Ukraine’s biggest bank PrivatBank plans to halt all of its operations for eight hours from midnight on Oct. 14 to carry out a major overhaul of its software, the bank has announced.

Updating its software – called the bank’s process architecture – means PrivatBank will have to halt all operations and the bank will not provide any card-based services until 8 a.m. on Oct. 14.  The operations affected include withdrawing money from ATMs, and paying with cards in shops and online.

PrivatBank ATMs and payment terminals will shut down during the software upgrade.

“We advise people to withdraw cash in advance,” the bank said, replying to a client comment on Facebook. In total, PrivatBank has around 20 million customers.

According to the bank, the software update will improve the PrivatBank operations, but the bank didn’t specify how it will improve customers’ experience.
