PJSC Sberbank (Kyiv), a subsidiary of Russia’s Sberbank, has filed an appeal against the ruling of Kyiv Economic Court dated April 18 to ban the use of the Sberbank trademark in Ukraine in a dispute with Ukraine’s state-run Oschadbank.

The financial institution used its right to file an appeal in the period provided by law, so the ruling of the first-instance court did not come into force, the press service of the Ukrainian subsidiary of Sberbank said in response to a query from Interfax-Ukraine.

As reported, Oschadbank earlier said that Kyiv Economic Court court declared invalid 10 trademarks of the Ukrainian subsidiary of Sberbank of Russia and banned the bank from using the Sberbank trademark.

As reported, on January 15, 2016 Oschadbank filed a claim to Kyiv’s business court against Sberbank asking to ban the use of the trademark for goods and services under the certificate registered earlier by Oschadbank to use the name Sberbank.

Oschadbank was founded in 1991. It is wholly owned by the state.

Oschadbank ranked second among 93 operating banks in the country on January 1, 2017 by total assets (Hr 210.099 billion), according to the National Bank of Ukraine.

Sberbank (formerly PJSC Subsidiary Bank of Sberbank of Russia and NRB Bank before that) was founded in 2001. Its sole owner is Sberbank of Russia.
