You're reading: Ukraine central bank buys $40 million in interbank market this week

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) in the period from August 3 to August 7 bought $40 million in the interbank foreign exchange market, which is 5.3% more than in the last week of July ($38 million).

According to the data released on the website of the central bank on August 7, during the corresponding period, the National Bank only bought foreign currency in the interbank market and conducted all interventions at a single rate.

In general, since the beginning of the year, the regulator has bought $4.055 billion in FX reserves, and sold $3.292 billion. Including in March it spent $2.2 billion on supporting the hryvnia, in July – $368.7 million, while the central bank’s net purchase in April was $678.8 million, in May – $660.6 million and in June – $1.155 billion.
