Ukraine and Turkey have agreed to hold the next round of negotiations on a free trade area (FTA) and a meeting of the intergovernmental commission in the near future, Ukraine’s trade representative, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine Taras Kachka has said.

“We are now working on a meeting of the intergovernmental commission so that it would be held as soon as possible. We immediately sent a letter stating that we were interested in the round of negotiations and received a response that in January we will hold this round of negotiations,” Kachka said at the conference “Trade Wars: Art of Protection” organized by the Ilyashev & Partners law firm in Kyiv.

According to him, this is one of the most difficult negotiations on the FTA.

“Everything is complicated with Turkey, but this does not mean that negotiations need to be frozen. We will wage ‘a head-on fight’ with Turkey, but we will find a solution,” he said.

The trade representative also announced his visit to Uzbekistan.

“Next week I want to go to Uzbekistan. This country is not in focus, but it is our trading partner who suddenly decided to introduce duties in the conditions of an agreement on a free trade area. We will go to figure it out,” Kachka said.
