You're reading: AeroSvit to pay major part of debt to Boryspil airport in interest-bearing promissory notes

AeroSvit Airline and the Boryspil airport have announced that their dispute over a debt has been settled and agreements aimed at resuming the flight schedule as soon as possible have been reached.

"Thanks to the agreements reached, the airline will pay the major part of the debt in interest-bearing promissory notes. The payment schedule for the rest of the debt has been agreed," reads a joint press release of the companies issued on March 20.

The press release says that AeroSvit will every day prepay for services provided by the airport in the amount agreed, which will allow the two companies to plan their finances and provide for the performance of all flights in line with the schedule.

As reported, last week Boryspil International Airport suspended the servicing of AeroSvit’s flights due to a problem of advance payments for services provided by the airport to the carrier. In turn, AeroSvit said the debt was die to an unjustifiable increase in the airport service fees and criticized the practice of suspending flights. The airline said that its debt to the airport is around Hr 6 million.

AeroSvit was established in 1994. It is based at Boryspil airport. The airline services 80 international routes to 33 countries and transports passengers to Ukrainian cities. Its fleet consists of 19 medium-range Boeing 737s and eight long-haul Boeing 767s. In addition to that, it operates Airbus 320, Airbus 321, Embraer 145, and Embraer 195 aircraft jointly with partner airlines.

AeroSvit has been a member of the Air Transport Association (IATA) since 1996.

Boryspil International Airport occupies a site of about 1,000 hectares. It has two runways: one 4,000 meters long and 60 meters wide, and another 3,500 meters long and 63 meters wide. The airport has four passenger terminals, and a mail and cargo complex.
