You're reading: Akhmetov: Investment climate favorable in Ukraine

Founder of Donetsk-based CJSC System Capital Management (SCM) Rinat Akhmetov says that the investment climate in Ukraine is favorable in general.

"I’d like to say we’re moving in the right direction. The investment climate is favorable in Ukraine today," he told Interfax-Ukraine in Kyiv on Thursday.

At the same time, while commenting the outcome of a plenary meeting of the Domestic and Foreign Investors’ Advisory Council on Thursday, he said investors had agreed that the investment weather in Ukraine resembled March.

"We’ve gathered today to discuss the investment weather in Ukraine and concluded this is March, but, as far as I see, we should move to April," he said.

According to him, the government and business have a common goal – to enhance the country’s economic strength.

"It’s important that the authorities and business have a common goal. We all want Ukraine to become a strong economy. We all want to create new jobs, we all want to root out poverty in the country, and that’s why economic growth is needed," he said.

"The economic growth cannot happen without domestic and foreign investment. Investment goes where the investment climate is more favorable. The investor needs the supremacy of the law, the respect of the right of private ownership, freedom of speech, freedom of the individual, stability, predictability and fair rules of the game," Akhmetov said.

He said he believes that "President Yanukovych is moving along the path of reform." "Reform is the most difficult, hardest road, but this is the only way which will bring Ukraine to success," he added.
