You're reading: Boiko: Cutting transit rates not subject of Kyiv-Moscow gas talks

The question of lowering transit rates is not on the table during the negotiations over gas between Kyiv and Moscow, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Boiko has said.

"We are not considering the issue of reducing the rates on transit," Boiko said during a Thursday press conference in Kyiv.

A delegation from Ukraine is now in Moscow for gas negotiations.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has given the government and Energy and Coal Industry Ministry the job of finding compromise in the matter of getting Kyiv’s price for Russian gas down as soon as possible.

Boiko expressed the hope that such a compromise would be found before the ‘heating season’ begins in mid-October.
