You're reading: Foreign investors file lawsuits worth Hr 170 billion against Ukraine

Foreign investors are trying to recover Hr 170 billion from Ukraine in international courts, Deputy Justice Minister of Ukraine Anton Yanchuk has said.

“The total amount of claims is Hr 170 billion,” he said at a briefing.

According to him, this amount is made up of 19 litigations, as well as 21 complaints on pre-trial settlements of disputes with foreign investors.

Yanchuk said that in 2012 the amount of claims was UAH 30 billion, in 2013 – UAH 20 billion.

He said the rise in financial claims and the losses of foreign investors in Ukraine is connected with the occupation of Crimea and parts of eastern Ukraine by Russia, as well as the “resistance of oligarchs.”

According to the Justice Ministry, in 2014 the ministry was preparing procedural documents linked to claims submitted by Russia’s OJSC Tatneft against Ukraine; Torno Global Contracting S.p.a and Beta Funding S.r.I against the Infrastructure Ministry and the State Automobile Road Service of Ukraine; Universal Trading & Investment Co., Inc and Foundation Honesty International, Inc. against the Public Prosecutor’s Office and Justice Ministry; Sinequanon Іnvest against Ukraine; Ukrenergy Trade ZRT against state enterprise Ukrinterenergo, Ukrenergo, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry and Korlea Invest, a.s. against the same companies and ministry.

In addition, the Justice Ministry worked on claims filed by City State N.V., Praktyka Asset Management Company LLC, Crystal-Invest LLC and Prodiz LLC against Ukraine; Krederi Ltd. against Ukraine; Ukraine’s claims against Bosh International, Inc. and B&P Ltd. (the United States), against the Hungarian medical center of Pecs and Allard Pierson Museum at Amsterdam University (the Netherlands).

The Justice Ministry also processed document regarding the pretrial settlement of disputes under claims submitted by Black Iron Inc. against Ukraine; Remington Worldwide Limited (Britain) against Ukraine; Filasa International SAS against Ukraine, GPP Developers Ltd. and others against Ukraine (Liberty Plaza LLC), GPP Developers Ltd. and others against Ukraine (Green Plaza LLC), Krederi Ltd. (the owner of Vestigal) against Ukraine and claims of CPI Investment Fund Ltd. against Ukraine.

The Justice Ministry also worked on documents concerning the pretrial settlement of litigations between CPI Investment Fund Ltd. and Ukraine due to the non-return of VAT to Tar Alliance LLC; CPI Investment Fund Ltd. and Ukraine due to dividends not being received from Tar Alliance LLC; Guris Insaat ve Munhendislik A.S. and Ukraine; OJSC Rosneft and Ukraine; Reverta and Ukraine; Olympic Entertainment Group AS and Ukraine; Cleanosol Trading Company LLC and Geveko Industry Holding AB and Ukraine; A.M.G. Minerals Ukraine LLC and Ukraine.
