The Cabinet of Ministers at a meeting on July 24 approved the updated Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2030, Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Eduard Stavytsky told reporters in Kyiv on Thursday.
“Yes, they approved it. Some amendments [after consultations with the public] have been made. We thought about how to simplify the connection of generation from renewable sources to the energy system. We tried to take into account all proposals. But I would like to say once more: there are highest rates [feed-in tariffs] in our country compared to European countries. We have to think about this,” he said.
The minister did not specify the planned share of renewable energy in the energy balance of the country, as well as other details about the document.
In March this year it was reported, with reference to the draft Energy Strategy of Ukraine until 2030, that the share of renewable energy in the energy balance of the country in 2030 could reach 18%, and in the structure of electricity generation – 10%.
Previously, a number of experts and international partners of Ukraine criticized Kyiv for the intention to stipulate in the Energy Strategy too low a share of renewable energy – at a level of about 2%.
“These figures change in the draft document we presented. But the final figures will be known when the government approves the document,” the head of the department for strategic policy, investment and nuclear energy at the ministry, Mykyta Konstantinov, previously told Interfax-Ukraine.
