Ukraine and the United States should increase bilateral trade, Ukrainian First Deputy Prime Minister Valeriy Khoroshkovsky has said.

According to his press office, he discussed trade issues at a meeting
with U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk as part of the fourth meeting
of the U.S.-Ukraine Trade and Investment Council in Washington on
Tuesday.

The sides also discussed the state of and prospects for trade and
economic cooperation between Ukraine and the United States, and agreed
on the creation of a working group on trade issues.

“The purpose of this working group will be the removal of obstacles
in trade relations between our countries, and as a result, an increase
in trade,” Khoroshkovsky said.

He said that in this context it was important to reach a compromise
regarding the termination of anti-dumping measures against Ukrainian
products.

“Support from the U.S. side in liberalizing the access of Ukrainian
goods to the U.S. market and the cancellation of the existing
restrictions are very important for us,” Khoroshkovsky said.

He said that by addressing the existing problems in bilateral trade
the trade between Ukraine and the United States could be increased by
several times.

Khoroshkovsky said that the government was continuing to take
measures to fulfill its commitments to improve the protection of
intellectual property rights and was considering this an important
prerequisite for the competitiveness of the Ukrainian economy.

He also expressed interest in developing new high-tech projects in
the energy sector and measures to enhance cooperation in agriculture.
