You're reading: Lawmakers want to allow private companies to produce ethyl alcohol in Ukraine

Some lawmakers suggest that production of ethyl alcohol be brought outside of the state's monopoly, represented by state-run Ukrspyrt enterprise.

Corresponding bill No. 2754 on de-monopolization of ethyl alcohol production was registered in parliament by MPs Oleksiy Mushak, Oleksandr Bakumenko, Mykola Kucher (the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko), Vadym Ivchenko (Batkivschyna faction), and Serhiy Labaziuk (the People’s Will, or Volia Narodu, group).

The document proposes that enterprises, irrespective of their form of ownership, be allowed to produce ethyl alcohol (including for the production of medicines), rectified ethyl alcohol from grapes and fruit, as well as bioethanol on condition they obtain a license. The same applies to the import, export and wholesale trade in these products.
