MOSCOW - MasterCard cards are already working in Crimea, Visa cards may soon work, the CEO of National Payment Card System (NPCS), Vladimir Komlev, told journalists on May 28.

NPCS is working out transactions inside Russia of both international systems.

“According to my information, MasterCard is already working there. And Visa will soon begin working. Let’s not name concrete dates. MasterCard is functioning there in a network of those banks, whose ATMs and POS terminals are working in Crimea, and many of them are conducting transactions with MasterCard cards,” he said, noting that this concerned only transactions inside of Russia.

Komlev said that NPCS is also trying to find ways of restoring the full functionality of cards in Crimea. The NPCS chief affirmatively answered a question about the possibility of such a restoration before the end of the year.
