You're reading: NBU: Ukrainians buy $373 million more in foreign currency than they sell in February

The amount of net purchases by Ukrainians of foreign currency from banks in February 2012 was equivalent to $337 million, which was 33% down on January 2012, according to the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

The NBU reported that individuals bought $1.44 billion from banks and sold $1.07 billion in February, which was 8.7% down and 4.5% up on the previous month.

In general, the total volume of transactions on the cash currency market in the second month of the year stood at $2.507 billion, which was 3.5% down on January 2012.

In addition, the NBU said the volume of bank deposits by individuals in freely convertible currency in February rose by $288 million (by $377 million in January 2012) to $19.11 billion as of March 1, 2012.
