Economic Development and Trade Minister Petro Poroshenko hopes the European Union will inspect Ukrainian milk processing enterprisers in 2012 and the beginning of 2013 to permit the supply of Ukrainian dairy production to the European Union.

"During my negotiations in Brussels we’ll speed up EU inspection of our dairy enterprises, which will allow us to open exports to the European market of the main dairy items, including dried milk," he told journalists in Kyiv on April 10.

The minister also said exports of dairy products to EU had been discussed during his meeting with the representatives of dairy processing enterprises on April 10.

According to him, Ukraine has not exported dried milk to the EU since 2008. This was due to the demands of the EU that Ukraine inventory all its dairy herds, which was not done because the corresponding labels were sold to the agricultural producers for Hr 60 each, Poroshenko said.

As the minister reported, at its next meeting, the government is planning to approve a decision on the free supply of labels for the inventory of dairy herds to agricultural producers. According to him, such a decision will speed up the inventory process, and give Ukraine the grounds to ask the European Union to inspect its dairy processing enterprises.
