You're reading: Ukraine cuts electricity exports by 2.6 times in six months

Ukraine in January-June 2015 reduced exports of electricity by 2.6 times (2.875 billion kWh) compared to the same period in 2014, to 1.802 billion kWh, a source in the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry has told Interfax-Ukraine.

Electricity supplies from the Burshtyn TPP energy island towards Hungary, Slovakia and Romania in the first half of 2015 dropped by 20.5 percent (by 463.2 million kilowatt-hours) compared to the same period last year, to 1.796 billion kWh.

Electricity was not supplied to Poland in the first five months of 2015, while during the same period last year exports totaled 598.7 million kWh.

Supplies to Belarus during this period totaled 400,000 kWh, to Moldova – 5.3 million kWh against 1.403 billion kWh and 416.8 million kWh in January-June 2014 respectively.

Ukrainian electricity exports to Russia for the first six months in 2015 amounted to 800,000 kWh, while during the same period last year supplies to Russia were not recorded.

At the same time, Ukraine in January-June 2015 imported 1.393 billion kWh of electricity from Russia, in particular in June – 2.8 million kWh.
