KYIV, May 17 – Ukraine produced 1.231 million tonnes of crude oil and gas condensate in the first four months of this year, two percent less than in the same period of 1999, the State Statistics Committee said on Wednesday. It said natural gas output was six billion cubic meters (bcm), a 0.4 percent rise from the same period a year ago.

The committee said oil and gas condensate output in April alone totalled 300,000 tonnes, 4.6 percent less than in March.

Natural gas output in April fell 7.5 percent month-on-month to 1.4 bcm.
Ukraine produced 3.791 million tonnes of crude oil last year, 2.7 percent less than in 1998, while natural gas output was 18.0 bcm, 0.5 percent up from the 1998 level.

Ukraine consumes annually around 25 million tonnes of oil and around 70 bcm of gas but domestic output only covers 12 percent of demand for oil and 22 percent for gas.
