You're reading: Ukraine slightly ups electricity consumption in 2012

Electricity consumption, including in-process losses in the Ukrainian grids, in 2012 grew by 0.4%, or by 764.4 million kilowatt-hours (kWh), year-over-year, to 188.436 billion kWh.

Electricity consumption that did not include in-process losses in the
grids fell by 0.01%, or 20.9 million kWh, to 150.474 billion kWh, a
source in the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry told Interfax-Ukraine.

Ukraine’s industry over the period under review cut electricity
consumption by 3% (not including in-process losses in the grids), to
70.789 billion kWh. In particular, metallurgy reduced electricity
consumption by 2%, to 36.98 billion, the fuel sector saw a 6.5% decline,
to 8.903 billion kWh, engineering a 9.1% decline, to 5.819 billion kWh,
the chemical and petrochemical industry decreased electricity
consumption by 3.9%, to 6.005 billion kWh, the construction materials
industry by 6%, to 2.545 billion kWh, while food and processing sectors
increased consumption by 1.1%, to 4.698 billion kWh, and other sectors
by 1.6%, to 5.84 billion kWh.

Electricity consumption by households in Ukraine in 2012 grew by
4.7%, to 40.275 billion kWh; and municipal consumers saw a 1.2% rise in
electricity consumption, to 18.548 billion kWh.

The share of industry in total electricity consumption in 2012 shrank
to 47% from 48.4% on 2011, while the share of households increased from
25.5% to 26.7%.

Electricity consumption including in-process losses in the grids in
December 2012 alone grew by 3.6%, or 644.3 million kWh, to 18.336
billion kWh, while consumption without in-process losses in the grids by
0.7%, or 100.1 million kWh, to 13.806 billion kWh.
