Ukraine as of August 16 had sowed winter rapeseeds on 136,000 hectares, or 14% of the planned areas.

According to the press service of the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry, with reference to the farming department director, Oleksandr Demidov, some 7 million hectares of land had been prepared for sowing winter rapeseeds on the same day (77% of the forecast).

The ministry notes that the provision of farmers with mineral fertilizers for the 2013 harvest as of August 16 had been 225,000 tonnes (35%).

According to the ministry, farmers have been provided with 1.7 million tonnes of winter crops seeds for the sowing campaign, or 100% of the need.

In addition, Demidov noted that the government in 2011 sent UAH 20 million for purchase of about 3,000 tonnes of winter crops seeds, about 90% of which are winter wheat. According to him, these seeds are sold to farms in the southern regions, which suffered drought this summer.
