You're reading: Ukraine ups coal production by 5.2%

Ukraine's coal mining enterprises in January-August 2012 increased their coal output by 5.16% (by 2.788 million tonnes) compared to the same period in 2011, to 56.837 million tonnes.

The Energy and Coal Industry Ministry told Interfax-Ukraine that
coking coal production over the first eight months increased by 0.5%, to
16.697 million tonnes, while steam coal production was up by 7.2%, to
40.140 million tonnes.

As reported, Ukraine’s coalmines in 2011 increased coal output by
8.9% compared to 2010, to 81.859 million tonnes. Coking coal production
increased by 3.7%, to 24.859 million tonnes, and steam coal output was
up by 11.4%, to 57 million tonnes.

Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Boiko forecasts that coal
production in Ukraine in 2012 will rise by 2-2.5%, to 84 million tonnes.
