You're reading: World Bank appoints new country director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova

The World Bank has announced the appointment of Qimiao Fan as director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova, the bank has said in a statement.

The bank said that his most recent assignment was country manager for Cambodia.

According to the bank, Martin Raiser, who served as country director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova from July 7, 2008, was appointed country director for Turkey in January 2012.

"Mr. Fan will lead the policy dialogue with government officials, civil society and other partners," reads the statement.

According to the World Bank, Fan, a Chinese national, joined the bank in 1991 as a young professional.

He worked then as an economist/senior economist on Russia and CIS countries.

Fan took leave from the bank in January 1998 to work in the private sector in various senior executive positions in China until September 2002.

After returning to the bank Fan became program leader for the investment climate program in the World Bank Institute.
