Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych is demanding that regional administration heads create regional grain reserves to prevent any growth of bread prices.
The president said at a meeting of the Council of Regions in Kyiv on Thursday that irrespective of the large grain harvest, not all of the regions had bought enough grain.
"The situation with the formation of regional grain resources is unsatisfactory. Today we have enough grain, now it’s over 34 million tonnes," he said.
The president said that Kyiv, Khmelnytsky region and Sevastopol had not bought enough grain.
"You’re creating the threat of unjustifiable rises in bread prices through your inactivity. I warn you that you’ll be held personally responsible for having such an approach to your work," he said.
