You're reading: Kyiv launches official Euro 2012 website

Kyiv became the first of Ukrainian Euro 2012 host cities to launch a website dedicated to next year’s European soccer championship.

The interface of the host city website, city-kyiv.com.ua/uefaeuro2012, received approval in fall 2010 after which the domain name was registered.

The bi-lingual Ukrainian- and English-language site contains drop down menus, pictures and videos. It has a map of Kyiv, information on its history and culture, a list of foreign embassies, information on volunteering, transportation, fan zones, VIP zones, Euro 2012 mascots as well as other information about the other host cities of Lviv, Kharkiv and Donetsk. The website also contains information on the four Polish host cities and relevant information for the media.

Although snazzy in appearance, the website’s English leaves much to be desired.

Its homepage contains this excerpt, “On 28th of November in Kyiv was happened the official mascots presentation of UEFA Euro 2012TM …”.

The site’s creators also named Kyiv’s 16 most prominent places, museums, theaters, and architectural gems in recognition of the fact that 16 teams will participate in the 31-match soccer tournament June 8-July 1 next year.
