You're reading: European Commission can’t promise visa-free regime to Ukraine and Georgia

Brussels - The European Commission continues to assess whether Ukraine and Georgia meet EU requirements for a visa-free regime.

Georgia is being assessed now, and we’ll see whether there will be a positive report by the European Commission. The same goes for Ukraine, Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations said at a press conference in Brussels.

In turn, Federica Mogherini, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, noted that the decision would not only be based on a technical assessment.

Technical assessment is ongoing, but there will also be a political assessment and signals that we’re preparing, she said.
