You're reading: European representatives go to Kachanivska prison to try to meet with Tymoshenko

KHARKIV - Vice-President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Walburga Habsburg Douglas and a member of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly of Sweden Asa Lindestam have entered the territory of Kachanivska colony in Kharkiv, where former prime minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko is serving her prison sentence.

The ex-premier’s daughter, Yevhenia Tymoshenko, leader of the Civil Resistance social initiative MP Oleksandra Kuzhel and MP Iryna Heraschenko of the Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense came to the penal colony together with the European Politicians, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported.

"We will try to meet with the head of the colony and find out why they are not allowed to meet with my mother," Yevhenia Tymoshenko said entering the prison territory.

A rally gathered outside the colony. People are chanting "Freedom to Yulia!" The entrance to the colony is guarded by police.

As reported, Ukraine’s State Penitentiary Service did not allow Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE Walburga Habsburg Douglas, and four other representatives of European institutions to visit Tymoshenko in jail. The European politicians said they still planned to visit the ex-premier.
