You're reading: Herman: No politics in case against Danylyshyn

There are no political motives behind the criminal case against Former Ukrainian Economy Minister Bohdan Danylyshyn, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Hanna Herman has said.

"There are no politics [involved]: He [Danylyshyn] never was a political leader and never carried out political activities. He was a financier and, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office, he violated some laws, illegally signed some documents, passed some money through some relatives, I don’t want to go in details, because this is not my business – there are law enforcement agencies for dealing with this."

At the same time, Herman condemned the position of the former minister, who has been granted political asylum in the Czech Republic.

"If he is an honest person and not guilty, than he should come and say: "Please, investigate my case," or at least let the investigation go on from abroad if he does not want to return to Ukraine. Hiding abroad after having embezzled money is not the best position for a citizen," Herman said.

As reported, Former Ukrainian Economy Minister Bohdan Danylyshyn has been granted political asylum in the Czech Republic.

Danylyshyn, who served as Ukraine’s economy minister in the government led by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko in 2007-2010, was put on the state and international wanted list in August 2010. On Oct. 19, 2010, he was detained in the Czech Republic at Interpol’s request.
