You're reading: Korolevska: Ukraine-EU summit could be a victory for Tymoshenko

A BYT-Batkivschyna faction deputy and the head of the parliamentary committee on industrial and regulatory policy and entrepreneurship, Nataliya Korolevska, has said that the initialing of the association agreement between the European Union and Ukraine could be a real victory for former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

Korolevska’s press service reported that the politician announced this outside the building of Kyiv’s Court of Appeals on Tuesday.

"We’re here at the Court of Appeals in order to support our leader, Yulia Tymoshenko, and the European future of Ukraine. It was Tymoshenko who set the European agenda for Ukraine for many years," Korolevska said.

While commenting to reporters on a meeting between EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule and Tymoshenko, she said: "Yulia Volodymyrivna has already addressed the European Union from her prison cell with a request not to end the possibility of Ukraine’s joining the EU."

"We cannot make such a gift to the current government. Our country needs a chance to become a member of the European family more than ever. The recognition of [Ukraine’s] European prospects will be a real victory for Yulia Tymoshenko and for all of us," Korolevska said.
