You're reading: Marchuk arrives at Prosecutor General’s Office

Former Ukrainian Prime Minister and former Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (1999-2003) Yevhen Marchuk has arrived at the main investigation department of the Prosecutor General's Office.

"I was summoned as a witness, and I still don’t know anything," he told reporters on Thursday.

As reported, Marchuk was summoned for questioning as part of a criminal case opened against Ukraine’s second president (1994-2005), Leonid Kuchma.

It was reported that journalist Georgy Gongadze disappeared in Kyiv on September 16, 2000. The tapes of former State Guard Department officer Mykola Melnychenko were then publicized, and on their basis several political parties accused Kuchma of organizing the murder of Gongadze. In this case, Marchuk was accused of organizing the bugging of Kuchma’s office. Marchuk categorically denied the accusations.
