The wife of former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko, Iryna Lutsenko, has accused the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office of causing the serious worsening of the state of health of her husband.

"I accuse the Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office of [being responsible for] the catastrophic worsening of the state of health of my husband," she told reporters in Kyiv on Wednesday.

Iryna Lutsenko said that on Wednesday for the entire day she had been trying to get permission from an investigator of the prosecutor’s office for her to meet with her husband in hospital.

According to the wife of the ex-minister, she got permission to visit her husband only on Thursday, May 12. Thus, she said, the Prosecutor General’s Office violated her rights as the defender of Yuriy Lutsenko.

At the same time, she added that she had obtained permission not from the investigator himself, but from his assistant.

"I got the permission to see my husband only tomorrow, [May] 12. Thus, all the rights that I have as a wife and a defender have been violated," Iryna Lutsenko said.
