Russian President Vladimir Putin is meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the Elysee Palace in Paris before negotiations of the Normandy Quartet leaders.
The presidents of France, Russia, and Ukraine and the German chancellor are to hold another round of negotiations in Paris later in the day.
Upon arriving in Paris, Putin had a meeting with French President Francois Hollande, which was not available to members of the press.
Some reports in Ukraine on Oct. 1 suggested that Russia had made a request for Putin’s meeting with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said later that no such meeting was on Putin’s schedule.
