On Aug. 28, Yulia Tymoshenko and the nation of Ukraine will clash in the European Court for Human Rights in Strasbourg. The former prime minister is suing the government because she believes her rights – including to a fair trial -- were violated in the course of a lengthy trial that sent her to prison for seven years.

Some people never cease to "amaze" - "Skadden failed to respond to multiple requests for comments for this story." Well, spin doctors and propaganda weasels calling yourselves journalists, how about client confidentiality, attorney provilege, etc. etc.?

$1,065 per hour is market standard for top counsel. Mandates can change. All in all, too much hype, but since we are talking legal, please tell us about Tymo's legal arrangements, legal expenses and mandate? Oh, you have nothing to say? Well, well, so much for impartial press and objective analysis.

Tymoshenko, Lutsenko, and several others have the entire sovok mafia Zookraine government of Yanusvoloch, Rinat Kuzmin, Firtash and the Party of Regions after them.

They have the right to defend themselves, especially in stalinist show trial situations as have just occurred and are still occurring.

They have the right to defend themselves - even if you don't believe so.

Oh, you have nothing to say? That's because you are a sovok mafia moron.

Skadden Arps started out as a boutique law firm specializing in securities law - mergers and acquisitions.

The tradition of lawyers in the US is to provide pro bono legal representation - but that does not include, in any way, countries like Zookraine.

Katya, I am glad that you wrote this article.

There is something that stinks to high heaven about this Skadden Arps contract.

Which, of course, is reflective of the Yanusvoloch and Party of Regions "reverse Midas touch" - whatever they touch turns into shit.

There is also no way that that Skadden Arps is getting just $12,000.

This is yet another part of Zookraine's full employment program for American law firms.

Someone's got to pay for all those Oriental rugs and expensive offices and high salaries at Skadden Arps. It might as well be the psychotic idiot sovok mafiosi in Zookraine.

My dear IvanovPetrovSidorov; Remeber these words: "Do not swear falsely by my name and so profane the name of your God." Leviticus 19:12. Even Kirill your saviour would not approve of your caustic language. You should do penance and wash your mouth out with bleach every day for at least one week. If nothing else, at least your teeth will be clean.

Thanks KP, you are doing some great work lately. And, no, we are not interested in how much Tymoshenko's lawyers cost, because that does not come out of the state coffers, which are funded mostly by the hard-working entrepreneurs of Ukraine. Those lawyers fly first class, so just their airfare would run over $12,000. It's totally amazing how the government can misstate the truth (apparently we have to very careful what we say on here lately, so I won't say "lie") and be so arrogant as to think the average citizen can be fooled.

Skadden's representatives have visited Ukraine at least three times since the contract was signed on April 10, according to Vlasenko. In at least one of the cases, the team was made up of two partners and two associates,

elmer, harley what is shameful is that the ECHR is being used to advance a colonialist agenda by certain elements in EU . There is no grounds for ECHR to hear her case until all court proceedings in Ukraine are complete.

The European Court of Human Rights is concerned about - human rights.

There is nothing "colonialist" about that - except to sovok mafiosi.

In Zookraine, the sovok mafia cares absolutely nothing about human rights.

Tymoshenko and Lutsenko were subjected to stalinist show trials in Zookraine.

Those trials are complete.

We know that Zookraine has no true judges.

The EHCR is thus an appropriate forum for the protection of human rights in Zookraine.

Sadly, the village idiot селепки in Zookraine care nothing about human rights either - with the exception of a few, like Ms. Coynash and others.

So the sovok mafia, Yanusvoloch and his mafiosi in the Party of Regions will contnue to push their propaganda about "meeting European standards" - while doing exactly the opposite.

Did anyone stop the think that maybe the lion's share of the bill is being paid privately? Interesting thought. If so, who is footing the bill?

It is someone not in the gov't not even a regionnaire.

Roman Dawydiak Aug. 13, 2012, 2:57 a.m.

On the contrary it is almost certainly a regionnaire or somene who is closely related. According to recent reports almost 80% of the candidates running for office in the Verkhovna Rada that belong to the Party of Regions are multi-millionnaires. That should narrow down the field significantly.

Wow the party of Regions have to hire / employ lawyers to prove Tymoshenko was guilty and the Court was honest.

A great one for the Joke book.......has anyone heard of an honest Ukrainian Judge ?

What a bunch of whore lawyers Yanukovich has found to help him carry out injustice. There are many American law firms who are out to destroy democracy and they found one of the worst ones! Lawyers who destroy justice should have a special place in hell. What can I do here to help spread the word about Skadden Arps??

elmer-елмер Aug. 8, 2012, 3:54 p.m.

Bill, this is not the first.

Just before this, there was Akin Gump and Trout Cacheris. Akin Gump is also tied in with Akhmetov, Zookraine's wealthiest mafioso.

There are no lawyers or judges in Zookraine, and there is no legal system.

They have absolutely no credibility.

So the sovok mafiosi have turned to American and British law firms - for some credibility.

And also for some influence, the idea being that if they spread some money around the US, their press will be more favorable overseas, thus improving their "eemeedge."

And "eemeedge" is everything to sovoks. They don't care about their internal, homeland "eemeedge."

They care about their overseas "eemeedge," and like sovoks, they spend tons of money to propagandize their "eeemmeeeedge."

I imagine the conversation at Skadden went something like this:

"hey, we've got some mafiosi from Zookraine who want us to represent them and convince the European Court of Human Rights that the stalinist show trials of Tymoshenko and Lutsenko are not really stalinist show trials. "

"The good part is that we don't have to know anything about Zookrainian law, because Zookraine does not have a legal system"

"In Zookraine, it's not what you know, it's who you know - so you don't really have to know anything. And money talks."

"well, even Satan is entitled to legal representation. How much can we charge them?"

"That's the good part - money is no object - I'd say at least $5 million."

"Plus the official contract will be for only $12,000, so it won't look like we're money-grubbing, like Akin Gump did."

"Done"
