Former Ukrainian Prime Minister and Batkivschyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko has called on all Ukrainians who care about the fate of their country to gather on Independence Square in Kyiv on January 22 to celebrate Unity Day.

"Now I would like to turn to the whole country… I want to remind everyone that on January 22 Ukraine celebrates a most significant festival and event – Unity Day. Therefore, on January 22, I want to say right now, and I hope that [opposition] politicians will support me, we should gather all people of goodwill and celebrate Unity Day in the place where we always gather. It’s the Maidan [Independence Square in Kyiv]," she told reporters on Tuesday at the Kyiv Court of Appeal, which was to consider former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko’s appeal.

Tymoshenko said that only in this way it was possible to show the current authorities that the Ukrainians are united.
