Former Ukrainian Prime Minister and leader of the Batkivschyna Party Yulia Tymoshenko has said that the detention of former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko shows the desire of the authorities to remove from the political arena the people, who are trying to resist them.

"They need to remove from the political arena those people, who are trying to resist them (the authorities). They are Yuriy Lutsenko (the former interior minister and Yulia Tymoshenko’s companion), who was detained without any grounds, cynically, near his home," Tymoshenko said before the interrogation at the Main Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office on Monday.

She added that the authorities started an attack on her, Yuri н Lutsenko and Oleksandr Turchynov (first deputy leader of the Batkivschyna Party), who was also called on Monday for questioning to the Prosecutor General’s Office. The attack is aimed against these people "because they are firmly opposing all the dishonest and illegal actions by Yanukovych and his entourage."
