You're reading: Tymoshenko not allowed to visit Lviv region

The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine has barred former Prime Minister and Batkivschyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko from making a working visit to Lviv region on June 6-8.

The party’s press service said that such the decision was given in an answer by investigator Oleksandr Nechvohlod to Tymoshenko’s petition.

"The investigator explained the decision to ban the meeting with voters by the fact that in this period Yulia Tymoshenko should be examining the materials of the criminal case [against her]," the party’s press service said.

The party described this refusal as "the deliberate obstruction of the routine work of a party leader with voters."

"The party insists that the Prosecutor General’s Office stop executing an order by the government [to conduct] political repression," reads the statement.

Tymoshenko also requested permission to visit Brussels and Vilnius in late June, but the investigator has not yet decided on the issue, saying that the answer will be given on the eve of her possible visit, the party said.
